List of creepy things to do at a sleepover for teen party ideas, Halloween ideas for teenagers, or things that will scare teens at parties. If you’re looking for spooky jump scares and horror-like scary ideas, you’ll love this list for your slumber party!
Ultimate Scare List Of Creepy Things To Do At A Sleepover Party For Teenagers For Jump Scares And Screams
When I was younger, all the neighborhood teens used to get together for scary games at sleepovers or just on a random night. I thought it would be fun to put together some of those spooky games for teenagers again!
Here’s our list of favorite fun Halloween party ideas teens love and scary things to do at teen parties — it includes some classic horror party games (think: Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board and Bloody Mary) and also some new DIY teen games we made up that were super fun!
Many of these slumber party activities will take some planning, so be sure to read through the ideas and plan the party well in advance to make the spookiest party ever!
IMPORTANT PARTY NOTE: Stay safe! Only do these teen activities on your own property under the supervision of an adult!
Blair Witch Project
Watch The Blair Witch Project.
Then, tell the party guests about a (made up) local legend and make an “impromptu” suggestion to a head to the local cemetery, park, trail, or woods (SUPERVISED ONLY!) and film your own Blair Witch Project.
Leave creepy clues along the trail and play it up like you don’t know what they are. (Enlist some friends and family to help with shadows, making rustling noises, etc.)
This is one of my favorite creepy ideas for teens, especially since they’ll be filming the time on their phones and later you can actually get everyone’s footage and put together your own Blair Witch film.
Bloody Footprints Trail
Before the sleepover, create a trail of bloody handprints and footprints leading to a spooky decorated room in the house. (Use these peel and stick ones!)
At the end of the trail, place an old, eerie doll with a note pinned to it that says, “I’m waiting for you.”
Then, make a scary story about how the doll got there and then instructions to a creepy fun scavenger hunt with fun prizes along the way.
PRO PARTY TIP: Hit the thrift store for creepy dolls for cheap!
Possessed Doll Scavenger Hunt
Another creepy doll theme! (I mean, dolls can be super creepy, right?!)
Hide an old, creepy doll somewhere in the house with spooky clues to the doll at each location.
The goal is for everyone to find the doll before midnight.
If the doll isn’t found, they must sleep with it in the room all night (or some other creepy truth or dare activities with the doll).
PRO PARTY TIP: Add an extra layer difficulty by changing the doll locations during the hunt.
Creepy Movie Marathon Jump Scares
Choose a selection of age-appropriate horror movies or creepy cartoons for a scary movie marathon.
Enlist family or friends to do weird things inside and outside the house throughout the marathon movie watch party – make shadows walking outside windows, scratch on doors, slam doors, screams outside, etc.
PRO PARTY TIP: This might seem weird, but a mating fox call sounds just like a woman’s bloody murder scream. (This happens at my house every year and scares the crap out of me.) If you find the recordings like these online and play them outside, it’s super creepy!

The Call Is Coming From Within The House
Arrange for a mysterious phone call to interrupt the sleepover.
When someone answers their phone, have a distorted voice (use this voice distorter!) that gives them eerie instructions or tells them something is about to happen in the house.
After the call, dim the lights and play spooky sound effects to scare everyone, or send them on a mysterious nighttime adventure to discover something creepy.
(If it’s outdoors, be sure to have an adult close by and make sure everyone is safe and OK.)
Cursed Object Storytelling
Before the sleepover, collect a few antique objects like an old key, a cracked mirror, doll head, bloody t-shirt, an old necklace, or any other scary items you can find.
(Again, hit up the thrift store for cheap creepy objects!)
Each person takes an object from a bag and has to create a story about how the object is cursed.
Dim the lights, add some spooky music, and use a flashlight under the chin for added effect.
(Is the flashlight thing still a thing? We always did that as a kid and it was spooky in the dark!)
Give prizes for categories: most scary story, most creative, funny spooky story, etc.
My daughter and her friends are HUGE fans of creating lore and this was a big hit. If you have teens who like creating backstories, this is a great party game to add to your sleepover!
What’s At The Witching Hour?
At exactly 3:00 AM, which is known as the “witching hour,” wake everyone up with a loud, unexpected noise like a slamming door or a large object being dropped.
Lead party guests outside to an eerie spot in the yard where there’s a “ghostly” figure (like a sheet hidden up in a tree) or someone hiding in the shadows.
Be sure to scream and run back in the house!
Bloody Mary Challenge
I’m not going to lie, this creepy sleepover activity always freaked me out as a kid! (I probably still wouldn’t do it today!)
According to the legend, if you say Bloody Mary three times in a mirror in a dark room, after the final chant the ghost of Bloody Mary is said to appear in the mirror.
Bloody Mary is supposed to be a scary spirit and some say she appears covered in blood, others say she has a distorted, terrifying face.
(Beyond that, I don’t really remember the lore of Bloody Mary… like, why is she Bloody?!?)
Here’s how to play:
Teens take turns summoning Bloody Mary. (Don’t ask who Bloody Mary is. I don’t remember the lore from it. You can create your own scary back story to tell everyone before you play to set the mood.)
In a small bathroom with a mirror, turn off the lights and light a candle.
Taking turns, one person goes into the bathroom alone and slowly says “Bloody Mary” three times while looking in the mirror.
(Some people claim the candle will flicker or you will see something in the mirror.)
CREEPY PRO PARTY TIP: You can also have someone quietly make an eerie sounds outside the door or have a walkie talkie hidden in the room to whisper things when people are in there.
Ventriloquist Dummy Adventures
Leave a ventriloquist dummy in the corner of the room at the party and don’t say anything about it.
Throughout the night, quietly move the dummy around when no one is looking.
As the night progresses, have the dummy “whisper” things or appear in unexpected places.
Cursed Video
Create a short, disturbing video clip with unsettling images, weird music, static, and eerie background noises.
Pretend that it was found on a USB drive from a previous owner of the house and play it on your laptop.
Leave the video playing without explanation for creepy effect.
Dead Man’s Hike
Create a path or a trail in a dark area. Line it with creepy objects like fake bones, old dolls, and torn “bloody” (red food coloring) clothes and more.
Have guests walk down the path and tell them a chilling story about a dead man who haunts the area.
As they walk, react to (fake) noises and (fake) touches. Bonus points if you pretend your flashlight goes out.
Disappearing Guest
Make a plan before the party with a trusted friend.
Then, during the party, have the friend “disappear” during a bathroom break or when everyone is distracted.
The person should hide in a pre-planned spot while the others start to search for them.
While searching, the missing guest should send a cryptic text or leave a creepy clue that suggests they’ve been taken by something sinister.
After enough tension has built up, they can reappear with dirt on their face and leaves and twigs in their hair with a vague and eerie explanation or pretend like they don’t remember anything from the last hour (or however long they’ve been gone).
Witch’s Curse
At the party, tell a spooky story about a woman who people thought was a witch who cursed the area.
Throughout the night, leave cryptic signs around the house that seem to be part of the curse—like a doll tied with twine, a jar filled with “blood” (red food color water), or a bundle of twigs arranged in a strange pattern.
At midnight, find an old book with a new curse scrawled in red in it.
Mysterious Guest
Ahead of the sleepover party, plan with a trusted friend (that guests won’t recognize) to be the “mysterious guest.”
Have the unknown person in a terrifying costume (like a ghost, zombie, scary clown, etc) suddenly show up at the sleepover without warning.
Have the person remain silent and menacing, staring at the group, following them around, watching from a distance, or appearing in unexpected places.
Then, have them vanish as mysteriously as they arrived and never give an explanation or let on to what happened.
I have to be honest, if this happened at a party I was attending, I would probably leave. It’s SO CREEPY!
Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board
This is another weird game I remember playing during my childhood.
(Now that I think of it, why was I always playing creepy things?!?)
(Anyway…)
This is a levitation game. (Yes, I said levitation, as in, making people float.)
One person lies down stiff and straight.,
Using only two fingers each, the rest of the group tries to levitate them (life them) while chanting, “Light as a feather, stiff as a board” over an over.
(Weird, I know.)
The belief is that basically as a group you can use your minds and chanting to magically lift the person.
Let me know how it goes!
