Ingredients for Worms In Dirt Recipe

To make gummy worms in dirt you’ll need:

  • 4-6 chocolate pudding cups
  • 4-ounces frozen whipped topping like Cool Whip, thawed
  • 16 chocolate vanilla cream sandwich cookies like Oreos
  • Gummy worms*

*We used regular gummy worms for our dessert cups, but you can also use sour gummy worms, too.

Since this is supposed to be “dirt,” these mini shovel spoons are a lot of fun to eat with! Kids loved it!

Directions for Making Worms in Dirt Dessert Cups

1. Place sandwich cookies into a resealable bag. Seal bag.

Using a wood kitchen mallet, wood spoon, or rolling pin, crush the cookies to a fine consistency until it looks like dirt.

Set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, spoon chocolate pudding cups into bowl.

Then, fold in the whipped topping.

RECIPE NOTE: I don’t use the entire 8 ounces of Cool Whip because I like a darker pudding cup, but you can use the full 8 ounces if you want.

Stir to combine until no white streaks remain.

3. Add half of crushed cookies to the pudding mixture. Stir to combine.

4. Spoon pudding mixture into individual cups, leaving room at the top for toppings.

Chill for at least 60 minutes (or cover with plastic wrap and chill until ready to serve at the party).

5. Remove pudding cups from refrigerator.

Sprinkle top of each cup with remaining crushed cookies for the “dirt.”

Gently press gummy worms into top of mixture so it looks like they’re crawling out.

Serve immediately.

Happy Halloween!

I hope you enjoy these Worms In Dirt Halloween treats for your dessert table!
